The University of Dayton, founded by the Society of Mary (Marianists) in 1850, is a top-tier, national research university, one of the top-10 Catholic universities in the country and the largest private university in Ohio. The Great Miami River runs through the University of Dayton's 373-acre campus. The Rivers Institute at the University of Dayton seeks to reunite the Miami Valley with its rivers. Each year the institute sponsors an annual River Summit to encourage leaders in cities along the river to create a cohesive vision for recreation and development.
